Gwen O’Brien is an award-winning designer, currently working at on her latest project, Design X Collective, a decentralized design studio in the metaverse. She specializes in NFTs, the blockchain, and the future of graphic design. She works for a variety of clients in NFTs, Beauty, Culture, and Tech.

From founding her own all-female design studio to serving on the national board of AIGA, she has a track record of raising expectations and inspiring excellence wherever she goes. She sets a high bar for herself, and has a knack for encouraging others to bring it in terms of energy, enthusiasm, and creativity. Originally from Michigan, Gwen studied graphic design at Kendall College of Art & Design. She is the recipient of the school’s prestigious Distinguished Alumni Award in 2011, along with several other awards including American Alliance of Museums Design Winner and is a Sappi Ideas that Matter 2014 Grant Recipient.

When did you get into crypto?
I started getting interested in crypto in 2017 with my dad. It was a hobby that we shared—“Which coins are you gonna buy? What platforms are you on? What would you buy next?” It was something interesting that we could chat about that wasn’t religion or politics.

Have you always been a designer?
Certainly, even though I didn’t know it for awhile. It started with a love of beautiful writing and letters—my parents and my grandparents penmanship. Also, my mom owned an interior design business, which had an enormous impact on me. I got to grow up around a lot of interesting designers and artists—they always seemed to enjoy life more than anyone else. I knew that’s who I wanted to be.

So, what’s next?
I’m working with CENT as Head of Brand, so we’re always working on new things or trying something in a new way. We experiment a lot and I love that. Getting ready for takeoff! 🚀
